Bill Quay Farm are offering a truly unique support service for clients with a range of abilities.

Supported Day Service

Our Day Service provision encompasses a number of activities and facilities that serve to benefit the user. It is designed to help those with learning disabilities and/or Autism, receive assistance and support in a real environment and give them opportunities to learn and develop functional and practical skills.

At Bill Quay Farm we believe that every client who attends our Day Service deserves the very best of care, support and encouragement. Our onsite staff provide the right mentoring and guidance tailored to each specific need.

Our facilities are unique compared to other day service providers, as we give our clients the opportunity to experience a real life working farm. The interaction with our animals is aimed to help inspire and have a calming affect on those who attend. We also recognise that for skill development to be successful they must be developed in real life situations.

What we offer

Our support service provides a therapeutic use of farming practices. The day service user will work as a group doing meaningful activities in animal care, horticulture and farming related tasks, playing an important part in the day to day running of the farm. Interaction with the animals calms anxieties and boosts confidence and the outdoor environment provides a form of therapy, by engaging in sensory activities in a safe, comfortable setting, it also provides plenty of fresh air and exercise for the individual. Through the work on the farm they gain practical and transferable skills, an increase self confidence, self worth and communication skills.

Other opportunities include.

  • Gaining qualifications

  • Personal development sessions - arts & crafts, singing, career advice.

  • Sports sessions provided by local sports groups.

Benefits of our Support Service

Case studies have shown that children and adults with complex learning difficulties including Autism behavioural difficulties, speech and language difficulties and problems with hearing and vision can benefit from interaction with animals and forestry school.

SEN children tend to respond well because of the multi sensory enabling environment of our farm animals and wooded areas where they can explore. Particular benefits include, gaining more independence, reducing anxiety and creating a sense of belonging.
